The Thiruvazhmarban Temple in Thirupathisaram is one of the ancient 108 Divya Desams, glorified in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham by Nammalvar and Thirumangai Alwar. Situated just 5 km from Nagercoil, this temple stands as a sacred destination in the Malainadu Divya Desam Tour and holds immense importance in Vaishnavite tradition.

The name “Thiruvazhmarban” translates to “The Lord who resides with Mahalakshmi”, symbolizing eternal divine grace. The temple is believed to have been established by Pandya kings and later renovated during Travancore rule. Its unique architecture blends Tamil and Kerala styles, featuring finely carved wooden pillars, a traditional tiled gopuram, and serene surroundings that enhance the temple’s spiritual atmosphere.

Legend and History

According to temple legend, Lord Vishnu appeared here as Thiruvazhmarban Perumal to bless King Devasarman, a righteous Pandya ruler who sought Moksha (salvation) through deep penance. The temple is also connected to Kulashekhara Alwar, one of the twelve Alwars, who is believed to have worshipped the Lord here regularly.

It is said that the divine energy of Thirupathisaram helps remove mental distress, life obstacles, and karmic burdens, bringing peace and prosperity to devotees who visit with faith.
